Tiles for Smiles (2003-2004)
In January 2003, Mayor Sonny Dobbins asked Bay Minette civic organizations to help raise funds for a "Splashpad" water playground at the Community Kids Park. (4th Street and McMillan Avenue)

Bay Minette Civic Club decided to sell
Tiles for Smiles
Handprint or footprint (babies), name and age were
painted on 6x6 ceramic tiles for a $20 donation.

After over a year of selling, 304 tiles were sold. 1/2 of our 600 tiles goal.
The first tile was sold April 17, 2003. The last tile was sold July 3, 2004.

We donated $5,000 to the City of Bay Minette,
also 1/2 our goal.

Our donation paid for the Water Tower feature of
the Splashpad.
Similar to this except green where this one is blue.

Opening Day for the Splashpad was May 1, 2004.

We planned to erect a wall near the Splashpad to mount the tiles on, but were not able to raise enough to cover the cost. So the City of Bay Minette mounted the tiles for us on back of the existing wall near the wood playground.
THANK YOU
  • Everyone who bought tiles
  • Ceramic Pelican (Fairhope) for firing the tiles
  • City of Bay Minette for mounting tiles on wall
